Had plans to change it but you know, laziness causes a lot of delay. I finished some Maths revision paper from the school in the afternoon. Most of the questions were easy... but I know it's just an illusion to make us feel it's easy. I should really get prepared for the test and score well. I just need more practice.

After I did that I watched some Korean drama 'Dream'. Well Vivian put it in her MSN personal message and I just happened to see it and hence watched it. Finished the first three episodes and it's quite okay. Except that I don't really like the storyline. Become a professional boxer? That sounds way too unexciting.

I also went to Vivian's blog and she was talking about the lawsuit between DBSK and SM Entertainment. Like her I went to find some news sources... and it made my mind think. After all, money is the root of all evil. DBSK were stupid to have earned so much money for SME like how people milk cows. It's about the money.

Yesterday I read all the existing chapters of Kimi Ni Todoke. Shoujo manga; not too bad a storyline. It's not that complicated and mysterious, but nevertheless worthy entertainment. Talking about complication and mysteriousness, at first I was reading Naruto just on the surface, since I'm not one who goes really deep into things, like say analysing storylines and what happens next etc. I always have the habit of reading how people think on the Managafox forum threads though. People were discussing about this and that and suddenly Naruto left me thinking a lot. It's nice reading how differently everyone thinks of the whole mystery. I enjoy it when there are really possible and logical explanations. :)

It was also NDP in the morning at school. I seriously don't know how they could have organised one as simple and useless as that. Most students take quite some t ime commuting between their home and school, and all they have to do is be at school for 2 hours? Plus the whole programme was filled with speeches, marching and just a fashion show for the concert section of the programme?!

The fashion thing was totally lame. It had some Sec4 students strutting their butts around like (...). I don't really have the Singaporean spirit instilled within me? Maybe I'll try feeling like one tomorrow during um, National Day Parade.

Our dismissal was delayed for quite some amount of time 'cos of some girls with an i-dont-care attitude and the teacher called them back (a telling-off of course). Obviously, don't walk out of the gate if the teachers don't say you are dismissed. Where's their common sense?

I had debate afterwards, then lunch with my batchmates at Shaw. But had to rush back to school :( for an interview about some award at 1.15 p.m. Well some classmates (5 in fact) nominated me... it was some award about being actively involved in community service. (I'm actually involved in one because somehow I'm just the representative! Not like I chose to!) I doubt I'll win it anyway. They asked me "If you were given chance to do community service, would you want to?" Of course I answered yes, although the actual answer was definitely the opposite. It's what I call the desire to win even though you know you can't. (???) Don't get what I'm saying myself, but it's like you want to choose what's beneficial to you at all times.

Tomorrow I'll mug hard. And I am going watch NDP on TV. 在此停笔了。

Carol
我が名を称えよ。

Purposely failed NAPFA~

Yesterday I had NAPFA re-test. I could go for the one in May but I decided not to and instead go for the one in August since I had a Jap test the next day ^^ If I had gone for May I would only have to do 5 stations to pass. But August's is including 2.4, though if you fail the station you had failed at the very first test, you wouldn't have to go through anymore torture.

Well, to me, Napfa is in fact just a useless part of school life and who cares anyway. Initially, yes, I was wanting to try to pass, but when I did two inclined pull-ups... I was deciding whether if I should carry on or stop... after all, 2.4's dreadful. So in the end I pretend to try to grip the bar hard and pull myself up, then dropped my butt onto the ground :P

The teacher asked me whether I wanted to try again, but who would want to? Yu Xin's act was humorous -- she didn't even do 1. She dropped after 5 seconds the first time, and after 7 the second time. Totally fake please. i guess the teacher knew, but she just didn't want to say it. *However if the teacher were Mrs J, I guarantee she would have said it out loud that we shouldn't aim to fail...

After the "failure" I went to GB and we did some drill + 2010 EXCO elections. I seriously have some problem stopping at marching (berhenti or whatsoever shit). We tried in threes and there was hella poor coordination and time was up. We didn't have sufficient time to do anything at all. At least my CCA's better than Red Cross crap.

To share with you something, I was watching Naruto Shippuuden episode 119-120, which was actually um Kakashi Gaiden animated, about how Kakashi got his Sharingan. (I know my posts are mostly about Naruto, but I can't help it; there's somehow an urge which presses me to) It was very sad... I didn't cry while reading the manga, but anime seriously intensifies it.

And after watching it, I realised why Bleach ranks #2 in my heart and Naruto has always been #1. Naruto and Bleach similiarly have fighting scenes inside them, but Naruto has more emotions and bonds injected into it. Bleach is more about how one should fight, protect friends etc. Things like "One should fear his own sword".

Naruto manga was nice too. Sai told Sakura how she had been causing Naruto hurt. Evilz but anyway, Sakura has to be blamed largely. Hate Sakura.

Carol

It's been a long while since I posted.

Today I had needlework. We did some sort of scrapbook made of fabric... and a squarish spiderweb-like design on it. I had some trouble at first with the bobin and thread, as to how to make a "loop" out of it by getting the needle down and up again. I did a very ugly "straight" line for the binding the scrapbook together. And we used some sort of special scissors (pinking shearers maybe? i couldnt get what the teacher was pronouncing) to cut triangle-like sides. Disaster one after another. :(

Our group lost one bobin case so the teacher said we had to pay for it... I can't believe that piece of scrap metal costs $20-$30.

I've gotta work on my Chemistry PT over the weekend and send Yu Xin those apparatus photos. What trouble.

Watching Naruto S 118 now.

Carol

h1n1 flu situation

Because of H1N1 all CCA's going to be suspended for the whole of Term 3. (Don't think I'm really happy about this.) I wanted to be able to find an interest again in debate after CCAs resumed. But now it seems like things have worsened. :( I have been skipping sessions before the June holidays and I want to make up for it; I don't want the chairperson to think I'm irresponsible or something, or that I'm happy about this CCA-suspended-for-whole-of-term-three thing.

My school so far has three confirmed cases, with the affected students being in the upper secondary level. Everyday we take our temperature twice... which is the part I don't really like most about... I have to collect the tempareture taking sheet and return it TWICE everyday. Thank goodness I'm taking turns with Fui Jin, but it's still some troublesome work.

No morning assemblies, and that's good. My classroom's quite far from the parade square and I don't fancy walking all the way there and back in the morning. Mother Tongue Week's been cancelled. I mean, postponed for Post EYA activities. That's good cos I signed up for this 933 DJ Talk which is obviously boring. Initially wanted to sign up for dumpling making, but the days they had the sessions were those days that I would be busy.

Today Mrs Teo asked me, "Carol, how do you cope with stress? You seem quite calm and composed." I didn't really know how to answer her... I just told her I slept quite late every night so that I could have more time to finish all my work... But I was pondering over it during lunch and I came up with an answer. "Learn to accept reality and stop complaining and whining."

Well, that's basically what some of my classmates do -- whining and complaining. I'm not saying it's actually wrong, just that complaining and whining actually makes you do less. Whether of not you whine, you will still have to do it. So why not just save some time not doing so...?

Oh, I forgot to mentioned. Air-cons are not allowed to be turned on now to allow for air ventilation. Everyone keeps complaining that it's hot but I think it's just a little hot. Other schools don't even have air-cons in their classrooms, for Pete's sake. And FYI it's not calculated in the supplementary fees... although since it's quite an amount they might have slotted it in into consideration without showing to us.

The problem, really, is just about complaining. Understand the rationale behind the school's actions and you'll get everything right into your mind.

That's it for now and I'm going to brush up on my History PT.

Carol

another naruto episode comment

I didn't finish watching the new Bleach and Naruto anime/manga episodes/chapters yesterday, and I'm still watching/reading Bleach as of now while I post this. So meanwhile, in this post, I'm going to talk about what I did for yesterday. In my later post I'll write about Bleach, and I'll also comment about the H1N1 situation. By far, my school has gotten 4 cases. Will go into detail later. :D

Fridays are usually very slack-ish, being only at the most three types of periods. On odd weeks, we have PE, Aesthetics (currently taking Music & Dance), then Assembly. Then on even weeks, we have geography, Aesthetics and Assembly. It's the best thing you could ever get in lieu of a weekend. But I usually have debate sessions on Fridays as well, but that's not the case now and don't think I'm very elated about it. (later post for more info)

For Geography we learned a little about how to calculate different things pertaining to temperature and precipitation, which was not exhausting at all. I hate Chemistry lab lessons the most. You run up three stories, do just about 40 mins of lessons, and run back down again. And the distance isn't very near either.

Much to my content, Aesthetics didn't have dance today. It was a one-and-only lesson of learning how to compose songs or something like that, yeah. It was boring but at least better than dance. Dance would tire me, and all I do is just skip and slide around. Zzzz. We're learning Jive; it sucks.

We were supposed to form groups of three, so I partnered with Tracey and Zhang Yi. Halfway through somehow Zhang Yi had some mood change, I don't know for whatever reason but that made the whole group quiet for awhile. But in the end I just decided to ignore her (not my fault anyway) and carry on with Tracey. I don't know if she was frustrated with me or Tracey, but whatever like I'm going to keep trying to finding out. What's the point anyway? I have a life.

Assembly was boring too. Because of the H1N1 situation, no mass gathering was allowed and assemblies were held in class. So we had a live audio screening of the Head Prefect 2010 Candidates and there was a Q & A session at the end and you could pose a question if you wanted to.

Due to time constraints, only three questions were answered live. We even got held back 10 mins after sch because of this. There was only one questions which cuaght my eye. "If you could have one superpower, what would it be?" I liked the answers that came from two candidates. One who said regeneration so she could heal all wounds, and the other being read everyone's minds, so that she could know what we thought about the school, which is a way of effective communication.

I've casted my votes, and I'm hoping the one I voted for first choice would become head prefect.

Now, on to Naruto. The manga had a not-so-big surprise at the end, showing that Danzo actually had the Sharingan (the Sharingan at the top of the post is his). In any case, he is rendered powerless to me, because to just take care of a few assassins, he needs to activate the Sharingan. I suspect his Sharingan is from Uchiha Madara, because Madara's mask only shows one Sharingan eye, though I'm not really sure. Heard from somewhere, maybe my friend, that Danzo once tried to kill Pain but failed and that's why he wrapped up like a mummy now? LOL. In any case, I don't like him and hopefully Sasuke kills him. Sometimes I really think Naruto is naive; in this manga chapter 455 he said he wanted to seek an audience with Raikage to "TELL HIM THAT SASUKE WAS BEING USED BY MADARA AND ASK HIM TO FORGIVE SASUKE FOR THAT." I liked the part when Kakashi and Naruto had a little talk though. A flashback of when Kakashi was dying and he saw his father, then Kakashi asking Naruto what his father said to him. "Fathers usually have things to say to sons," he said.

I'm hoping Sai plays a bigger part in the story. I believe he's beginning to understand the thing about bonds now, having associated with Naruto for quite some time. I think there's more than it meets the eye, about Sai and the Anbu Root organisation where Danzo is the head. More action between Sai and Danzo, maybe?

The anime episode 115 was about getting Juugo to be part of Sasuke's "Snake" team, created to hunt down Itachi. Everytime I watch anime I don't get a very happy and excited feeling 'cos I already know everything through the manga lol.

Here are some pictures:

Sasuke is still too weak-hearted. He won't make a good killer (first image). This way he can never achieve his goals. Juugo's a bit wrong mentally, he keeps choosing the gender of his next victim (last image). And the one I hate most is Karin (3rd and 4th image). She's an annoying character who keeps pestering Sasuke.

Naruto and Sakura found out from Jiraiya that Sasuke killed Orochimaru and Naruto was happy. But he thought Sasuke would be returning to Konoha since he had already killed Orochimaru. Naive little kid. I don't why the hell Sakura was crying; that definitely was a wrong response. They should be elated that Sasuke didn't become Oro's container.

Carol

ayg live table tennis

I was watching table tennis semi-finals live on the AYG 2009 website (www.ayg2009.com) just now. All four single matches had China and four of the players all won. :P There's this one Japanese guy called Koki Niwa. I read about him in the newspaper and he claims that he hopes to challenge Chinese table tennis. My first immediate reaction was "Dream on." I don't think it's possible for him to do that, given that China has a vast talent pool of table tennis players and they start training young.

Diving and table tennis are two great sports that China has powerful dominance in. China always just likes to focus and invest into sports they are already good at, instead of experimenting different sports which God knows whether they'll even excel in. Some minister, chairperson or whatever said in The Straits Times that Singapore should do this too. Well, I strongly agree. But not like Singapore can get any better with such a small population and there is only a small handful of local talents. Just like at the Olympics, where the silver medal wasn't really won by Singaporeans. It somehow didn't feel like Singapore's glory. But even if it was, I wouldn't have cared anyway.

South Korea's quite close to China in the AYG medal tally. I must say that China didn't perform very well like I expected they would. They lost quite a number of medals to South Korea, especially one diving gold which I am absolutely frustrated about. It wasn't South Korea's fault, but rather the Chinese athlete's (her name was Liu Tian by the way) own fault that she lost the gold China should have gotten. She had a blotched diving attempt. And that's it. The judges didn't even give her any points for that. So, too bad.

It just like what Wu Dongliang, a Chinese diver, said, "One mistake can cause you to be overlooked." I wonder what will happen to Liu Tian. Less opportunities to represent China on international stages? Kicked out of the team? i wouldn't be surprised if that happened. After all, China has to ensure that they continue the dominance in the sport. And the best way to that is to pick the most elite tier of the athletes.

Wu Dongliang also said, "It is probably harder to win a national competition than an international event." So much true indeed. Diving seems to be muh more of a competition between China rather than with other countries.

One other thing I liked about this person from another sport (I can't remember who and which sport. I think it was either swimming or shooting. China got a 1-2 standing.) was that he said, "It doesn't matter who wins first or second. As long as China gets the gold, I'm happy." My, my, isn't that great thinking? Not like people like Li Jia Wei who will only care for money, money and more money, instead of thinking of winning the glory for Singapore.

And guess what? I hate the Chinese football coach the most. He said that the Chinese football players didn't have sportsmanship... How could he have said that of his own country to the media? He should have kept quiet. Like what the Chinese football players told Singapore fans to do. LOL China's players asked Singapore's fans to keep quiet during a China vs Singapore football match. In the end, China won 3-0. But China lost to South Korea in the semi-finals. :(

Ever since the Beijing Olympics 2008, I have been comparing sports events and performance to it LOL. Beijing 2008 was spectacular, and I don't think anything in the near future to come will match up to it.

Carol

ice screeeem

My mom and dad bought a lot of ice cream from a warehouse sale in Jurong lolz. I finally decided on what civilisation I should do on for the History performance task (shh... confidential). Well doing the PT's quite fun lol. ALL THE BAD GUYS IN BLEACH REVIVED in chapter 364! Wow, totally unexpected lol. There was big giagantic Hollow, Wonderweiss and Aizen and co. were out of the barrier made by the old man. I am so surprised now!!! THEN THE VAIZARDS FINALLY APPEARED. I can't believe I totally forgot about them until now when I saw them inside the manga chapter LOL.

Naruto wasn't anything really interesting... just showing some new people's faces and well, Naruto not wanting to betray Sasuke by disclosing information about him.

My school has this "Mu Yu Zhou" (Chinese language week) event. I initially wanted to sign up for dumpling-making course but the timings and dates were unsuitable so I has to settle with this 933 DJ talk lolz. Bet it's gonna be boring and I still have to skip GB because of it.

Today was super slack-ish. We didn't even have a single proper (educaitonal) subject. Only PE, then Aesthetics, and Assembly (due to measures to prevent widespread of H1N1, we watched videos in class about the people running for Head Prefect 2010). I decided who I wanted to vote for because her campaign theme was sorta related to Naruto lol. "Home away from home" Well according to Naruto, home is where someone is thinking of you. ICT (Infocomm Technology) Enrichment... not really that anyone listens to the teacher, because we (including me) believes that the so-called "teacher" (like he's not even really part of the RGS teacher community or w/e) has no authority over us. He wants us to complete some assignments now - a podcast, two posters, and Alice. Alice's some animation program where you can make a car run down a penguin but it's ugly and the characters/other images are not well-built.

Here's a book recommendation: (I don't know why I'm typing this but it's probably because I want to waste my time away and there's a library book beside me so, yeah) Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier. It's quite a nice read, although there are some parts that might not be suitable for young children below 12.

I just had chemistry lesson just now and we did crystallisation. It was erm, I don't know actually. Fun at times and boring at other times maybe? The teacher herself is boring... but I have promised myself to pay attention in class at all times possible. I'm trying to be a good student this semester and subsequent ones to come. Can't be too carefree anymore.

Therefore, I'm going to do my ICT work now. Will be boring but I'll just do some crap. It's ungraded anyway. Hopefully I'll finish everything by this lesson. According to the computer, it's 2.18 p.m. now and school ends at 2.50 p.m. today, so 32 more minutes to go. Hmm I'm doing up the bibliography now. But anyway it's quite fun... While writing this thing about homework, I suddenly remembered that I have to do some researching for my History performance task... ancient civilisation dated older than 1000 A.D. But it dissolved after thinking what trouble it would take to keep it updated and I don't want to abandon blogs so many times after all.

Oh, and Bleach 363 came out quite late yesterday, around 2 hours (LOL I checked the mangafox site for the timing and it isn't "around" 2 hours, IT IS EXACTLY TWO HOURS! [refer to left image - timings are some other countries' time]) after Naruto. Usually both of them come out at much the same time and not too late. Most likely the raw provider was a little late? Here's what I think about it. (Sorry for people reading my blog who don't even watch a little of Bleach. I can't help it lolz. Hope what I say makes sense and is interesting though. Haha.)

Sometimes Bleach just has weird titles for its chapters sometimes. But after I think for awhile, I realise that it's actually quite relevant. Oh well.

The next problem may not lie with the author, but just the manga translators (usually the Sleepyfans team). Everytime it comes to the name of an Espada's resurrection form, or a Shinigami's Zanpakutou's Shikai or Bankai, which all can be grouped under "power releases," they don't translate it and instead, just leave the name in Romaji (according to Wikipedia, the use of the Latin alphabet to write the Japanese language). For example, they didn't translate Stark's resurrection form and just left it as "Sogyo no kotowari." How are the hell are people supposed to figure out what it in fact, actually means?!

Next, the first page of the manga chapter, showed Chad's face (right image). The whole chapter didn't even show him fighting/talking for even one bit!! What has this got to do with the whole manga chapter? Can the author even think??? Speaking about fighting, the fighting scenes are drawn really badly. I can't make head or tail out of it. It's really hard to see who's making the attack sometimes (left image).

It's very predictable in Bleach. I would say that about Naruto too.

Since in both mangas there probably will be happy endings and in the end the good triumphs. But at least Naruto had Asuma die, not like he really was an important character, but AT LEAST THEY MADE SOMEONE GOOD DIE. Bleach always has Ichigo dying and reviving... okay, well, he's the main character. And yeah, in the Naruto manga, there was once when Pain destroyed a lot of Konohagakure, Naruto's village, and A LOT of good ninjas (including some "quite" important characters like Kakashi) die and revived lol. But they were revived by the bad-guy-turned-good, haha. Anyway I do admit Naruto and Bleach both have their shortcomings.

Speaking about Bleach 363, at least we got to see a little of Ukitake's abilities, and some hint that the "flowery captain" Kyoraku actually has immense power when he releases his Bankai? (Ukitake said to him: "Besides, you wouldn't want anyone to see your Bankai here.") I'm not surprised. THIS HAPPENS EVERYTIME. I can give you a whole list. :)

1. Ichigo suddenly turned into very Hollow-like (not just his mask, but his whole body) while fighting Ulquiorra, releasing a power never shown before.

2. Soi Fon released her "real" Bankai which she didn't want to because she thought it has attacks that are too flashy for a Secret Corps (an organization in Soul Society in-charge of assasinations) agent.

3. Ayasegawa Yumichika (the 5th seat, 11 squad, who loves beautiful things) had a Shikai he didn't want to use because it was not physical, but sort of kidou-type. He only released it when he was enclosed in total darkness, separated from the world outside, by his opponent. [images- right: "fake" Shikai form, below: "true" Shikai form]

4. Ulquiorra had a second Resurrection form, when he went above the dome of Hueco Mundo to release full power, that he said even Aizen didn't know about (treason!).

5. Yammy, the 10th ranked Espada, had the number "1" in the "10" on his body disappear and said he was actually the strongest of all Espadas, number "0".

6. Hitsugaya Toshiro, the 10th squad captain, released his power to command the heavens (changing the weather) while he was in Bankai form, while fighting Halibel, the 3rd ranked Espada. He said that previously, he had only tried this in Shikai form because he knew if he tried it in Bankai form, "the power would be so huge that it would cause huge destruction." [...load of crap]

...and many, many, many more.

Good for these guys, and too bad for the ones the author didn't like so he didn't bestow upon them "special unreleased powers." I would like to ask then, if so many have these so-called "unreleased powers," how do we know who is stronger unless they fight and we can't possibly know because the sides don't fight internally.

Let's just hope that the plot the author's created will go well and the development improves for Pete's sake. And if you ask me if I like the Bleach manga or anime more, I like the anime more. If you'd notice, the drawings of Hollows, or rather, monsters, are more gruesome in the manga. Whereas, in the anime, it looks more refined and less gruesome.

For Naruto, both the manga and anime are nice, just that the anime acts to instensify the manga and make it more interesting. Like, you can't make a big justu (technique) very interesting with a manga, but you can with the anime. One good example is when Naruto was destroying two of Kakazu's (Akatsuki member) bodies. He used Jutsu with great destructive power (if I'm not wrong, it's known as Wind-Rasen Shuriken) but you couldn't really see how good it looked in the manga. But there was one whole episode of it on the anime, and boy, was it brilliant.

I wonder if in Naruto, Tobi's yet unknown "Moon's Eye Plan" will link to Sasuke being friends with Naruto again and more importantly, HOW it will.

As usual, I can't wait for the next chapter next Friday! :]

Carol

Naruto manga chapter 453!

Naruto 453 FINALLY came out at around 6.00 p.m. ++ It was quite wordy but nevertheless always worthy entertainment to me! :D I wonder what's Tobi talking about when he mentions "Moon's Eye Plan." (left image) Maybe something to further enhance the abilities of the Mangekyou Sharingan he already possesses? Like to gather some powerful energy from some creatures (maybe the tailed beasts) and upgrade his eyepower? (LOL some good predictions I have here, maybe.)

Bleach 363 hasn't been up yet while I'm posting this but I doubt it will be nice, probably full of fighting scenes and just three or four sentences. The image the author drew for Stark's resurrection form (right image) really sucks. It doesn't look like any animal at all and he carries one GUN in each hand?!! They are supposed to be disgusting monsters!!! Not looking like some human wearing a coat made of animal fur and carrying guns.

Anyway I guess I've been putting up quite a number of images on my blog lately. Well, I think it's all part of my plan to try making my blog look more "colourful"?

Carol

Bird image for science

LOL just now I was looking through the picture files I stored on the computer last time, and I saw this picture of a bird I drew, either in P5 or P6. I don't have a really good impression of when it was drawn. But it looks terrible to me and I can't believe I drew such things lolz.

It was for some Science activity card by the Science Centre, Singapore so that we could receive a badge, and all of my classmates, or maybe the whole level (??? onoz, short-term memory), were doing a Biologist card. I guess we were told to show how a predator catches its prey. I did crap and above is the result. LOL. It's always like this, when you look at something you did many years before you realise you had been so childish.
I was looking at my P1 work a few days ago and I laughed at the maths I did lol. "Jerry had 5 apples, but he gave 2 of his apples to John. Well it was nothing much, just Sasuke gathering his team members in his quest to kill his brother. But some good entertainment though, compared to Bleach. Everytime Bleach has a huge fight among two sides with many characters, they tend to show one fight after another in both anime and manga. Which is really boring. However Naruto shows development in both plot and character in each episode/chapter, one good example is Naruto's fight with Pain, which is a good thing.

I haven't eaten my breakfast yet argh. It's 8.55 a.m. but I'm feeling damn hungry. My maid's gone out to buy breakfast... and she's BETTER be back soon. :P Can't wait for new manga chapters for Naruto and Bleach to come out soon in the afternoon.

I added a counter with unique hits too. :D I think the blog design's still quite plain but never mind... I'll just keep it simple and plain for the time being.

Carol

H1N1 sucks

Oh gosh. Just because of H1N1 we're gonna take our temperature twice daily when school reopens this Monday. :( The letter to parents they had online stated "In addition, school essemblies, and where necessary CCAs as well, will not take place during the first week after school reopens in order to minimise congregation of school staff and students." I hope they really cancel CCA. Besides when school reopens there's this thing about Conversational Malay... I saw the textbook and they teach us crap like sentences to communicate with a Malay teacher. Looking forward to my Japanese classes. :) Oh, and I added a blog hit counter... bunnies lol.

WHOOO! JUNE CAMP CUT SHORT!

Time for my first post. Wow, guess what! My GB June camp, which was intended to be from 23rd-25th (Tues-Thurs) was cut short and we broke camp on the 24th, around 6.50 p.m. By right it was to be suspended on the 23rd. But Ms Wong got permission from the HOD to end it later because GB already booked our dragonboating session. :( According to the teacher it's a directive from the MOE to prevent any spread of H1N1, which Ms Wong says would be big news if one of RGS's students were to be infected with it. H1N1 hmm... hopefully holidays get extended and we have lessons via the Internet or something.

Okay, now on with the camp. We had to report in FULL GB UNIFORM. How ew can that be please. And I wasted all my time packing for a 3D2N camp when it turned out to be 2D1N... On the whole, the camp was a failure because there was poor planning and organisation. I rated it 2/5.

First day: We went to the Raffles Room for some devotion and worship, group time and quiet time. Was boring, really, since I'm not Christian but never mind. At least I learnt to be a better person. Who knows if I'll ever apply what I've learnt in GB about unconditional and sacrificial love to real life. Maybe never? After that we had some drill. Most of the time was spent on uniform checking, so we just had to do a few turns and time's up. Easy to survive, in fact. We got lunch after that. The contents: rice, cauliflower, steamed egg with minced pork, battered fish and some french fries. I think it was french fries but it was weird. Maybe because they didn't fry it and the inside was all yellow and it really tasted like potato. But it was nicer that way, I guess. Then we had somehting called Urban Hike. No wonder we were told to bring our ez-link cards.

Urban Hike: We were given clues to find out which MRT station we had to stop first. The stations were all situated at the North South line. Okay so, the first hint we got was: "think: Isaac" Well that was easy and we only got to see the hint like 10 mins later actually, since the seniors thought it was so simple that they didn't bother to show it to us. So we found the station at Newton food centre (yumyum! no we didn't get to eat, aww) . The game was that we had to build a bridge linking from one bench across to the other, which was quite a short distance (about two straws) and we were given two tries. Easy please. There was no way a team could fail with this kind of game. We just had to insert a straw inside another and clump like 5 or 6 sets together and use plasticine to secure it to both benches.

The next clue given was "Apple cider". We had to think a little for this because apprently the "cider" was just there to distract us. So after awhile we realised orchards grow apples. Off we went and we took quite long to find the station. We even had to call for help. The station was not even near the MRT, really. It wasn't a very distinct place either. We had to walk quite a distance. I think it was somewhere near Wheelock Place, and nearby the place construction was undergoing so the place was dirty. :( What we had to do was just to retrieve puzzle pieces from a pail and fix the puzzle. but each one had a physical disability and mine was "movable blind". So I was the one retrieving. There were two fixing the puzzle pieces. One was blind and the other mute (not a really good combination haha). We didn't have a good time fixing 'cos the person who cut it cut it into weird shapes... zzz...

We got the clue "Trigonometry". It's Toa Payoh but I didn't really get how. The senior said it was an old, lame joke originating from some trigonometry rules. They were at the underpass or soemthing, can't really remember and all we had to do was perform a skit. We refilled a lot of water there (the station mistresses had two 1.5l bottles of water) so Diane (one of the station mistresses) was really happy. That they didn't have to lug back so much water.

Subsequently we went to a few more stations and I think in total we went 7 or 8 out of 10. All of the stations were fairly easy. Oh and when we have this kind of games there's always a cheer. our was lame and went like:
"We are the frolicking fighting fantastic five (group number = five)
We are here to brighten up your life
This cheer is lame
But that's okay
'Cos you love us anyway"

After we came back, we had to do reporting. The teacher implemented this new reporting system... it goes:
Orderly says: "Group 1, you may begin reporting."
Leader of Group 1 says: "Group 1 sedia. Group 1 1"
Next the members continue: " 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10"
The last person says her number and says something like this: "Group 1 10 present, 1 absent. She went home because she wasn't feeling well ma'am."
Leader says: "senangdiri"
Then the next group continues with the same procedure.

We had outdoor cooking and bathing with 1.5h. The sec3s said "Okay we'll cook sec1s you go bathe first" So we had quite a lot of bathing time and it was fine, unlike during Orientation camp where it was such a hurry we only had so little time. I didn't really do any cooking. We ate :( instant noodles, chicken flavour, and we had other ingredients to go with like braised beans, tuna and curry chicken. Canned food eww. Okay whatever this is supposed to be a discipline camp. Oh and we had lettuce too... I bet it wasn't washed properly so I only ate one piece.

Then we had night surprise. Boring boring boring. It wasn't really scary. Maybe because there were some last minute changes due to the cut-short. I think it was supposed to be on the second night. We went to sleep at 12 a.m. and woke up at 6 a.m. Slept in the hall. was hot at first but they turned on the air-con and it was okay. Halfway I woke up because of the sec 3s (who just bathed at 1.30 a.m., because they were the ones planning the camp and doing night surprise) made too much noise.

Next day: No need to say, we had devotion, quiet time and drill. We also had some batch time before our dragon boating. Not like I liked that. WE HAD MORNING EXERCISE! Thank god we only ran a little. For lunch we had nuggets and chicken wing + drumlet inside our lunch, yay. Next we went dragonboating which was the best activity inside the camp. We only learned a few stuff. there were 5 boats in total and we were divided according to squad (Phileo, Gideon (my squad!), Agape, Levites, Heralds). Whenever our boats met there was always splashing action. Everyone was soaked to the bone in the end. The instructors were terrible too... they JOINED IN the splashing. Of course they had more strength and splashed so much more onto us. Grr. Each boat had sort of a container, which I thought main purpose was initially to pour water in the boat out to the river. but in the end it was used as a "splashing tool." Collecting water from the river and splashing it onto people. -_-

Went back to school, sang Vesper (a song that we had to sing to end GB activities everytime). Sec 4s made sandwiches for us (could choose from marmalade and peanut butter) I chose the marmalade one because no one was reaching for it and I couldn't be bothered to go into the crowd. it was delicious, guess I was too hungry. Left immediately afterwards and went back home in my father's car. Had to place towels onto the seat so that it wouldn't be wet.

Home sweet home. I don't really like camps but this was okay since it was cut-short. Heh.

Carol

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://roastedpigs.blogspot.com/2009/06/whooo-june-camp-cut-short.html' title='WHOOO!
